ANN ARBOR, MI – February 2007 – Originus, Inc announced that the application for the European patent on STEP technology has been approved and issued (Patent No. 1330516). The STEP technology, which has 3 US patents granted, is exclusively licensed to Originus, Inc. by the University of Michigan.

 

ANN ARBOR, MI – October 2006 – Originus, Inc. has presented a poster in the Neuroscience Meeting at Atlanta, Georgia, entitled “Multiplexed Assays for Co-expressed GPCRs Involving Appetite Control”. It demonstrated the use of STEP in developing multiplexed assays with two different readouts and/or more than one GPCR expressed within the same cells. [Download poster (PDF)]

 

ANN ARBOR, MI – June 2006 – Originus, Inc. announced that the third patent have been granted regarding STEP technology, licensed exclusively to Originus, Inc. by the University of Michigan. US patent numbers 7,056,741 was granted on June 6, 2006. Dr. Michael Uhler, co-founder and scientific board member at Originus, is credited with the invention of STEP technology.  Another patent related to STEP is still pending.

 

ANN ARBOR, MI – September 2005 – Originus, Inc. has been selected as one of five finalists in the Pfizer Research Contract Competition and will present a research proposal at the MichBio Expo event on September 29, 2005 with the aim of winning funding for their proposal, ‘HTS of Multiplexed GPCR’s Related to Appetite’ by M. ANN ARBOR, MI – September, 2005– Originus, Inc. announced it has recently been awarded an SBIR Phase II grant from the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH).  Entitled “Screening Method for GPCRs Related to Appetite”, the grant of $1.35M over 3 years will be used for continuation of research using a proprietary transfection method known as Surface Transfection and Expression Protocol (STEP) for the screening of drugs related to obesity and AIDS.  Originus, Inc. received the Phase I portion of this grant in May of 2004.  This Phase II grant will focus mainly on targets associated with G-protein coupled receptors and utilize high throughput screening methods for the characterization of compound libraries.  Combinatorial library screening will be performed in collaboration with other biotechnology companies and corporate partners.

Founded in 2001, Originus, Inc. has optimized a solid-phase transfection protocol that produces very high co-transfection efficiencies in a wide variety of common cell lines.  Over the past several years, the company has had contracts with both major pharmaceutical companies and smaller biotechnology firms.

 

ANN ARBOR, MI – June, 2005 – Originus, Inc. announced that two patents have been granted regarding STEP technology, licensed exclusively to Originus, Inc. by the University of Michigan. US patent numbers 6,897,067 and 6,902,922 were granted May 24, 2005 and June 7, 2005 respectively.
